what did you do to deserve that, and is any of it actually funny?

I was caught doing 90 trying to get back to Dallas to see White Christmas at the theatre with my family.
So far, no. I’m in class with 7 other non-player characters. The last one is a robot. I’m calling him Tesla

They give speeding tickets in Texas?
![]() 04/15/2018 at 20:38 |

I’m picturing it being more annoying than funny.
There must be some way to game it...
![]() 04/15/2018 at 20:39 |

Apparently so. The video just informed me that most accidents happen under 40 mph. I was going 90, so I don’t understand the problem. I was more than twice as safe as that.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 20:41 |

But officer, I was going more than double the most unsafe speed.

There is a counter on each slide that you have to let get to zero. The entire course must take at least 6 hours. They have occasional personal questions to make sure you’re there and that it’s you.
I’m gaming it by hanging out with you guys. Help me out with CONTENT.

Exactly!

Drool over this - that’s what I’m currently doing:

Damn, that’s not gone up too much in the last three days. Of course, the last day will be the worst.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 20:47 |

He’s been trying to upload videos for a couple of days, and I’ve gone back and forth with him on a few items (as have others - I’m Skylane182 FWIW), and once he does that, bids should go way higher, assuming it all shows what he says.
At least I hope that they do- if that car sells under $25k I’ll be pissed.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 20:49 |

Unless you win. If it goes for under that and you didn’t bid, you’re dead to me.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 20:52 |

I’m reaaaallly struggling the idea of bidding that kind of money on a car I’ve never seen up close. I know these cars well enough to know that they can be absolute dreams, or absolute nightmares.

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 20:55 |

Yeah, it’s more than a bit risky. That’s why I need you to do it so I can live vicariously through you.

That’s what I’m doing right now.

HEY YOU NEVER BOUGHT THE JAG

In all seriousness, though - I actually *am* going to go look at this car Tuesday. It’s not quite as nice...

I know. I’m a failure. Rub it in...

Up for a project, are you? I wonder what the reserve is.

Why are you taking this course? WHAT DID YOU DO?
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:03 |

90 in a 75.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:06 |

Thats so boring, I hope speed enforcment never comes to Mexico.
I mean, don’t break the law!
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:08 |

On the plus side, I can use the course certificate to get a discount on my insurance.

Pitiful. The online driving course I had to take was for 105 in a 60. He wrote it just low enough that I could keep it off my license with the drivers training thing because I did it on a completely empty highway and pulled over behind him because I saw him, slowed down, he started moving, I slowed more, and eventually ended up stopped behind him (he was a CHP). Basically, I was trying to be safe.
I did some kind of online class where it did a review, then a test. Ended up passing it in around an hour one Saturday, even though it claimed much longer.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:13 |

I guess its good?
I don’t know... I wonder why speed limits are so low, when amazing cars like Kias can go so much faster!
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:14 |
|
In Texas, the courses have to be at least 6 hours long by law, with at least a 1 hour break. So, I have to sit though it. Oh well.

can you just float the window while watching a movie, or float the movie window so you can see when your next interaction is?
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:19 |

Right? I mean, it would be criminal to not stretch that big V8.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:19 |

Nah- we all have a lot of other priorities to juggle, you can’t do it all at once
Hopefully the right day comes for that soon!

No Radar Detector? Waze?
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:20 |

That’s what I’m doing. I can’t completely ignore it though, because they have intermittent questions to make sure you’re still there and you’re you.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:23 |
|
Alas, no. Honestly, I usually don’t speed enough to need it. I was in a hurry that day. Also, this big Kia is so stable and smooth at high speed.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:23 |

You never need one until you need one. That’s why I have one.

If somehow this car doesn’t sell and is still available in May, I might be able to go look at it.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 21:34 |

That sucks. Severely.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 22:05 |

We will see. Originally I was triggered because it’s exactly like my first car, but that’s not it.
My wife thinks I’m crazy for even looking at it.
She’s right of course.

That would be great thanks. Trying to figure out a way to get to Greenville myself next month and drive down there but not sure it would work.

Let me know if I can help if you make it down.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 22:47 |

Will do - we will see if it sells this week-
![]() 04/15/2018 at 23:30 |

That’s silly. In mass, I was doing 55 in a 35 and got a warning. Granted the road was just turning from a 45 to 35, but that’s still really dumb. Going past cops at 85 in a 65 they don’t even flinch.
![]() 04/15/2018 at 23:47 |
|
Yeah, but you know how it is when they’re out in revenue mode. They set a cutoff and if you go over it, you’re lunch.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 07:56 |

I guess it mostly depends on the state too, I’ve never heard of anyone getting pulled for going less than 10 over unless they are doing something else wrong. Cops here are pretty chill about speeding and people have proven in court around here that the speed limits are too low.

I had to “take” one of those classes once. I got a ticket when I was 19 (and before I knew how the system works and that traffic citations don’t actually mattter in New Mexico if you know where the strings are behind the curtain) and got the speeding ticket conditionally dismissed on taking the driver improvement course.
Upon talking to the court clerk, I learned the course in that county was contracted to the guy who also happened to be the captain of the town’s police department. I didn’t ask about conflicts of interest, but I actually already knew the captain through other (and completely innocuous) means. When I called him and said I had to take his course, he told that it was a six hour course done once a month on a Saturday with a $42 cashier’s check or money order due at the time of the course.
Then he told me that because he knew me, I could send the payment instead and he would send me the materials and I complete the course via correspondence (he knew I didn’t live in that town any more). I sent him a cashier’s check for $42, and a few days later he sent me the copy of the certificate of completion filed to the court without ever sending me the course materials.
It was completely corrupt, but I look at it now as it bought me back six hours of my life for $42 and avoided having a ticket on my record. That actually doesn’t seem like too bad of a deal.
.

Yeah, it makes a difference.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 11:49 |

No, it’s actually not. Especially because I can use the certificate to lower my insurance as well.
The precinct still gets its point of flesh though. I still have to send in $110 in “fees”.
